Each fencing bout is characterized and conditioned by complex variables not always easy to identify, define, or quantify. The study of these factors is of extreme importance for the purpose of diagnosis and treatment, but especially to prevent sport-caused acute and chronic traumas at all levels of proficiency.1 2
Training can and does influence positively and negatively reasonable protocols designed for an athlete’s well being. Without laying the proper foundations to correct causal factors associated with training, especially those technical and biomechanical in nature, it is impossible to solve or prevent effectively pathologies of the muscular-skeletal system of an athlete.
Naturally, an elite athlete suffering from a shoulder problem – beyond any type of treatment he’ll undergo – will have to temporarily or permanently change his training as an important condition for achieving the goal to find a solution of his clinical problem, a solution that must also take into consideration the schedule of his competitive season.
