the FIE Coaches Council, worked with the sabre fencers.
While training in Melun, the male foilists were able to participate in the Challenge Ernst Revenu, a senior men’s foil national circuit competition, the 47th edition of which was held on Easter weekend. Participants also had the possibility to participate in the world championships and gain crucial big-competition experience at a formative stage of their development.
The selection process of the fencers was entirely a national matter. The FIE selected the countries based on a combination of different criteria:
Special attention was paid to countries afflicted by conflict such as Syria, Yemen and Iraq, where buying air tickets to Europe is a huge difficulty. The presence of fencers from these countries added to the social mission of the camp. Nobody is left behind: to the countries not included in the list for the FIE Training Camp 2016, a subsidy was nevertheless granted to bear the expenses for the participation of a fencer in the championships.
