One place per discipline was available through this event. Egyptian fencers picked up two of those places, increasing their Olympic fencing contingent to seven athletes.

Alexandre Bouzaid (SEN) successfully defended his title in men's individual épée, Alaaeldin Abouelkassem (EGY) won his second gold medal in men's individual foil and Mohab Samer (EGY) became the third Egyptian in a row to win the men's individual sabre. Egypt has now won every edition of men's team épée and foil since 2004, while Tunisia won men's team sabre for the first time since 2012.

Sarra Besbes (TUN) has now won the last eight editions of women's individual épée, while Ines Boubakri (TUN) has now won the last nine editions of women's individual foil and Azza Besbes (TUN) has now won nine of the last 10 gold medals in women's individual sabre. Egypt ended Tunisia's streak of eight consecutive gold medals in women's team épée. Tunisia has now won four of the last five editions of women's team foil, as well as the last 11 gold medals in women's team sabre.
