2004
Women’s sabre is added to the Summer Olympic Games, making the IOC fencing program identical to that of men, and the first time men and women compete in all three weapons.
2008
212 fencers participate in the Beijing Olympic Games, making it the first time there is full gender parity at the Olympic Games in fencing. Also at the Beijing Olympics, wireless fencing is included.
2010
Fencing is part of the first Youth Olympic Games, taking place in Singapore. For the first time, a « mixed team » event is held, with teams comprising six fencers (three men, three women in each weapon) from common zonal regions (Europe, Americas, Pacific/Oceania, Africa)
