The FIE holds a women’s team foil event at the Championnats d’Europe because the event is not on the programme of the Olympic Games. A women’s team foil “world championship” is held in the same year over each subsequent Olympic Games until the International Olympic Committee adds the event to the fencing programme for the Summer Olympics in 1960.
