Miles Chamley-Watson prevailed when the foil fencers reconvened at the Prince Takamodo World Cup in Tokyo in November, the 2013 world champion beating five Italians en route to his first World Cup gold – including Olympic champion Daniele Garozzo in the quarter-finals and Giorgio Avola (15-10) in the final.
The bronze went to Erwan Le Pechoux of France and Italy’s Alessandro Paroli, while Chamley-Watson’s US had to make do with team silver after losing to Russia.
Olympic epee champion Park Sangyoung earned his first victory of the 2016/17 season with an 8-5 success against Italy’s Marco Fichera in the final of the Buenos Aires World Cup, with French pair Yannick Borel and Jean-Michel Lucenay claiming bronze. Russia won team gold.
